The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is thrilled to announce that acclaimed actor Colman Domingo will be honored with the Montecito Award at the festival's 40th annual celebration. Domingo will receive this prestigious accolade on Friday, February 14, during an evening dedicated to showcasing his remarkable performance in Greg Kwedar’s film SING SING. In this role, Domingo delivers a breathtaking portrayal of Divine G, embodying a captivating blend of vulnerability, charisma, and resilience. This recognition follows Domingo's recent win at the Gotham Awards, where he received the award for Outstanding Lead Performance.
Colman Domingo’s illustrious career includes nominations for an Oscar, BAFTA, Tony® Award, Critics Choice Awards, Independent Spirit, Gotham Awards, and several others. He has been honored with an Emmy, Astra, NAACP Image, and Black Reel Award among others.
Domingo gained widespread acclaim for his Emmy Award-winning role as “Ali” in HBO’s Euphoria, alongside notable performances in films like Zola, If Beale Street Could Talk, Selma, and Candyman.
In 2023, Domingo starred as Bayard Rustin, a pivotal Civil Rights leader, in the Netflix film Rustin, earning nominations for an Academy Award, Golden Globes, BAFTA, and SAG. He is also featured as “Mister” in the Warner Bros. adaptation of The Color Purple, which earned a SAG Ensemble nomination. Additionally, Domingo executive produced and stars in Sing Sing, which was acquired for distribution by A24 and is set for theatrical release in summer 2024. He also produced the film It's What's Inside, which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and was released on Netflix in October 2024.
