A peak inside my magical world
One thing I don’t usually dive into is my fascinating childhood—a whirlwind of music, creativity, and iconic figures! Growing up in a studio surrounded by legendary stars like Teddy Riley, Queen Pen, Busta Rhymes, and Kid & Play was nothing short of exhilarating. My father, a talented music producer, followed in the footsteps of my grandfather, an English Jamaican rock star who had jammed with major names like Mick Jagger! Though my upbringing was steeped in the vibrant vibes of Hip Hop and Rock and Roll, thanks to the influence of legends like Kid Rock and Run DMC, I was also in the orbit of Russell Simmons. As an only child (with a twist!), I took on the extra responsibility of looking after my older brother, who was on the spectrum. This meant outdoor play was off-limits, so I found solace in art, music, movies, and, of course, The History Channel.
Now, here’s a little confession that might ruffle some feathers: Hip Hop wasn’t my absolute favorite genre! In fact, I found myself gravitating more toward rock music, but my heart truly belonged to classical music. The moment I fell head over heels for classical tunes was during a visit to Universal Studios, where the enchanting sounds from the famous E.T. ride swept me off my feet. I was too young to pinpoint a favorite conductor back then, but I was captivated by the beautiful melodies that graced the soundtracks of various films—many of which were produced by my all-time favorite filmmaker, Steven Spielberg.
Even though I have a penchant for horror, thriller, and suspense, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite John Williams tracks. Did you know that the magical world of Harry Potter was brought to life by none other than John Williams? Talk about a musical legacy!
So, here’s to the Hero's that shaped my childhood and continues to inspire me today! 🎶✨
