Eats History: The Founding Father Who Built Wall Street Alexander Hamilton’s Split Pea Soup Recipe🍴

The Founding Father Who Built Wall Street… and Loved Split Pea Soup?

Alexander Hamilton wasn’t just the architect of America’s financial system, but he also had humble tastes, and one of his favorite dishes was a comforting bowl of split pea soup.

Born in the Caribbean and raised in hardship, Hamilton knew the value of a warm, simple meal. When he rose to power alongside Washington, Jefferson, and Madison, he never lost his appreciation for rustic, nourishing food. And split pea soup rich with vegetables, smoky ham, and slow-cooked flavor was a staple at his table.

It was cheap. It was filling. And it was absolutely delicious.

I recreated Hamilton’s version based on early American cooking practices, using dried peas, onions, carrots, salt pork, and a little colonial-era flair.

It’s one of those recipes that tastes like history in a bowl: hearty, honest, and surprisingly elegant.
