Funk Rock: Red Hot Chilli Peppers

What the hell just happened?! I have to let you know right now: I was today years old when I found out that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are a funk rock band. If you already knew that, congratulations—you deserve a trophy that says, “Kiss my ass, no you didn’t.” I know everyone in my generation thought exactly what I did: they were alternative. I’m telling you, this is exactly what Jimi Hendrix means when he says, “Are you experienced?”You have to accept and listen to the music that’s considered rock, call bullshit, gather all the famous bands that are properly categorized, and then throw in a band that AI just found out today was funk rock. And let me tell you, the machine is more excited than I am! I mean, Hollywood is so unorganized that AI isn’t even close to ready to critique music—it thought funk rock was R&B, anyway. You have to put all the bands together and, when you hear a band you always thought was alternative and realize it’s actually funk rock, it feels like you just took a psychedelic ride and said, “What the hell just happened?” That’s funk. What’s missing in Hollywood isn’t just good bands—it’s education. That “What the hell do you mean that’s funk? I can do that!” kind of education. And then you send it in to your favorite critic, the one who educates you like Mr. Lester Bangs, just to say, “Now what do you have to say with inspiration and fire?” Don’t believe me? Ask Paul McCartney.
