13 Reasons Why tells the story of Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) death. Instead of leaving some kind of suicide note Hannah leaves 13 cassettes for her classmates. The 13 cassettes represent the 13 reasons why she committed suicide. Each episode accounts for a different tape and is about a particular student's interaction with Hannah. 

This 13 episode series depicts one of the most realistic teen dramas ever. The motivations of Hannah begin to unravel; with each episode filled with rumors, cyberbullying and mystery. As the episodes progress, it is easy to be immersed into the sad world of Hannah Baker. You'll easily be transported back to high school and picture themselves in Hannah's shoes, in her mom's shoes, and in Clay's (Dylan Minnette) shoes.

Kate Walsh delivers an agonizing and powerful performance as a grieving mother dealing with the death of her daughter and frantically looking for answers. The two leads of the series Langford and Minnette both deliver star-making performances.  

Although the viewing experience of 13 Reasons Why is a satisfying one, like all works there are still a few issues. Members of the supporting cast deliver lackluster performances. Also, a couple of episodes would be better if a few scenes were cut out. Nonetheless, 13 Reasons Why is a show that you will definitely be binge watching.

The series executive producers include Tom McCarthy, Selena Gomez, Joy Gorman, Michael Sugar, Steve Golin, Mandy Teefey and Kristel Laiblin. When the series was initially announced, many assumed Gomez would have the role of the lead in this project, but by having an unknown, star in the role, it made it easy to get lost in the world of 13 Reasons Why. Gomez is definitely capable of handling the role, but being the most followed person on Instagram might serve as a distraction for the series. 


 In addition to D'Arcy James, Walsh, Langford and Minnette, 13 Reasons Why stars Brandon Flynn, Christian Navarro, Alisha Boe, Michelle Selene Ang, Justin Prentice, Devin Druid, Miles Heizer, Ross Butler, Sosie Bacon, Derek Luke, Henry Zaga, Amy Hargreaves and Steven Weber.

All 13 episodes of 13 Reasons Why premiere Friday, March 31 on Netflix.
