Marvel's The Defenders Review

Netflix released the latest installment of the MCU this Friday. The Defenders teaming up Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). The show has been in the works for a long time now and is the culmination of five seasons of shows. The global organization known as the Hand is in the final phase of their plans and the only people who can stop them are the devil of hells kitchen, a Private Investigator, the hero of Harlem, and the Immortal Iron Fist.

  Minor Spoilers Ahead!

The show opens up with Danny on the final leg of his global hunt of the Hand. His journey brings him back to NYC. Luke Cage spent his last few months in prison, and after his release, he heads to Harlem and meets Claire for some coffee. Matt has given up his life as Daredevil and is trying to adjust to a normal life. Jessica is trying to return to her normal life as well, but she always seems to find trouble. In no time these four strangers are thrust upon each other having to defend themselves against the Hand. The Hand is in New York because a mystical substance the leaders of the Hand need to live forever is hidden deep under the city streets. The team is reluctant to join together but soon realize they're the only ones who can defend their city.

I really enjoyed the Defenders. I'm always a sucker for hero team-ups, so I knew I'd like The Defenders from the start. The fights in the show were great all the members of the team effectively used their skills and abilities to defeat the Hand. I think the show does a good job at playing to the characters strengths and exploring their team dynamic. I loved when the team would break off into pairs, and we got to have Danny and Luke interact with each other while Jessica and Matt got to go on a mini-episode of Law and Order. Danny's really starting to come out of his shell more. I feel like going forward we'll see Danny become the heart of the group. It might sound weird, but I was happy to see Misty lose her arm. With her interaction with Colleen and her losing her arm, I think there is a good chance we'll be seeing the Daughters of the Dragon soon. Speaking of team ups, I really hope to see Luke and Danny team up in Heroes for Hire. The only downside I think the series has come from the Hand I felt like they should have been more of a challenge for the Defenders. I thought Sigourney Weaver was great as the big villain, but she was wasted I hope she will be back. Other than that the series is fantastic you're gonna love it.
